Here at Ewe Ewe we are joining the 30 Day Sweater class! Over the course of the month we will learn how to make a custom fit sweater with the help of Lacie and Johnny. You can check out the class at 30daysweater.com.
I hope you join in! I will be here posting about my sweater and so will my friend Jen Geigley from Make X Do. (You may know her as the designer of the insanely popular Gap-tastic cowl on Ravelry!) It's going to be a lot of fun to see how our sweaters go. We will both be using Wooly Worsted merino yarn for our sweaters.
Day 1 of the sweater class has you work on choosing yarn (squishy Wooly Worsted for us!), designing your sweater and knitting a gauge swatch. I decided to knit a pullover for myself. I want something loose and oversized with a boat neck and 3/4 sleeves. I think I would wear it all the time! But in what color? How can I choose a color? All of these colors are like my babies. I'd wear a sweater in any of them!
Finally I made a choice. Red Poppy it will be. A nice big red sweater. Perfect!
Jen decided to knit a sweater for her one year old son. He's going to be hanging out in a cute baseball-style raglan sweater with a Brushed Silver body, Sapphire blue sleeves and that's all topped off with a pop of Orange Peel Wooly Worsted yarn at the neck and cuffs. So cute! I can't wait to see it come together!
Then we got gauge! Knitting a gauge swatch is crucial to make a sweater that fits. A knitted gauge swatch tells you how many stitches and rows per inch you knit with the yarn and needles you're using.
After a little time with a ruler these little squares of fabric will tell us how tightly or loosely we knit. Then on Day 2 of the 30 Day Sweater Course we'll learn how to turn those numbers in to our unique sweater designs!
I hope you'll join us for the 30 Day Sweater Challenge. Jen and I will both be posting about our progress so stay tuned and read along!
