Hello! My name is Jen Geigley and I'm a knitter/blogger over at makeXdo. I'm thrilled to be knitting a sweater in Wooly Worsted along with Heather during the 30 Day Sweater Challenge this month! I love knitting sweaters for myself and for my children, but until now I have always followed a pattern. I understand the basics of sweater construction, but I have always wanted to learn more and that's why I was so excited to participate in this challenge. I've decided to knit a raglan sweater for my 1-year-old son using three fantastic colors of Wooly Worsted – Brushed Silver, Sapphire and Orange Peel.
I (like Heather!) started with measurements and calculations earlier this week to get my stitch counts, and then made my cast-on plan. This worksheet was the perfect way to make sure that everything was adding up.
Here's where things start getting a little bit crazy! But so much fun. My plan for this sweater took some brainstorming, but it's totally going to be worth it and Heather has been kind enough to help me figure out all of the technicalities along the way! I am knitting a baseball-style raglan with contrasting sleeves for my son, starting with the awesome pop of Orange Peel for the ribbing around the neck, and then a Brushed Silver body with Sapphire sleeves. These colors look amazing together! I've only been knitting for a few inches but I'm already so pleased with how this is turning out. I was a tiny bit nervous to start the raglan increases while making sure to wrap my color changes for the sleeves, but it hasn't been as hard as I thought! Heather wisely advised that I make a button band down one of the raglan edges so I am knitting this flat until I get to the underarms.
Thanks for following along with Heather and I during our 30 Day Sweater adventures! Check back soon to see how everything comes together.
