Local Yarn Shop Day {new pattern SNEAK PEEK!}

Have you heard about Local Yarn Store Day? Also known as LYS Day, this event is going to be a ton of fun! It's all about getting in your favorite store and supporting why they're there. The community that a local yarn shop provides is unmatched with other retail stores or finding yarn online. April 21 is a new holiday to show your favorite LYS how much you love them.

You know I love my Ewe Ewe yarn shops. Having managed a yarn store for three years, I have a great understanding of what it takes to create a welcoming environment day in and day out. These shop owners what you to have a great experience every time you come to their store and Ewe Ewe is here to help. Meet our LYS Day exclusive design... Ewe So Summer

YASSS! Look at that shawl, queen! It's so fabulous, isn't it? Let's look some more.

Ewe So Summer is designed by The Unapologetic Knitter using Ewe So Sporty merino yarn from Ewe Ewe. It's a great pattern that uses slipped stitches and a modified seed stitch to create tiny transitioning pockets of color. Pretty perfect!

Plus, it's edged with a beautiful picot bind off.

The Ewe So Summer shawl will be available starting Saturday, April 21 through local yarn stores and ONLY local yarn stores. Kinda cool! So what does that mean? It means you'll need to head in to a brick and mortar store to get this new design (and hopefully the yarn to knit it!).

Where can I get this project?

Doodle Stitch Beanie featured on MDK March Mayhem!

I'm excited to say that the Doodle Stitch Beanie designed by Meaghan Schmaltz is on the Mason-Dixon Knitting March Mayhem bracket. Like, so excited! Here's the Doodle Stitch Beanie:

It's one of my favorite designs that Meaghan has ever created and now it's getting some great focus. The MDK March Mayhem brackets feature some of the prettiest designs around!

What's the MDK March Mayhem Bracket?

MDK March Mayhem 2018

MDK March Mayhem 2018

Think of the MDK March Mayhem like the famous NCAA basketball tournament. The best teams in the country compete against each other to see who is the best. The MDK March Mayhem does that for knitting patterns!

The Doodle Stitch Beanie is in the Mini Skeins category because the focus is small, fun projects that highlight a playful design (an adorable squiggle stitch in this case!) with a small amount of yarn (1 ball of 2 colors of Ewe So Sporty merino!).

Head over to the MDK March Mayhem page to vote for the Doodle Stitch and whichever other designs you love. I love this kind of fun competition! Vote by Sunday, March 18, 2018.

I want to make a Doodle Stitch Beanie!

It's seriously a fun pattern to knit so Meaghan and I put together some kits with more color options! See the Doodle Stitch Beanie Kits >

Go to the MDK March Mayhem page and vote for the Doodle Stitch Beanie. You can also print out a bracket for yourself to keep track of your picks. Have fun!

UPDATE: Ok, I just went and voted and I found it easiest to do with two windows open. That way I could click on the photos to make them larger in one window and then make my selections in the other window. Remember, this round of selections closes Sunday, March 18, 2018 so be sure to vote right away.

January Events: Speaking + Teaching

Hello, friends!

It's a fresh new year and I'm getting "out there"! I have two events scheduled for January and I'm really looking forward to them. I'll be speaking at the San Diego North Coast Knitters Guild on the 9th and teaching a color theory class at Yarning for You on the 20th.

San Diego North Coast Knitters Guild

Meeting: Tuesday, January 9, 2018 1:00 to 3:30 pm

Where: San Dieguito United Methodist Church, 170 Calle Magdalena, Encinitas, CA 92024

I will be the guest speaker for the general guild meeting! I'll be talking for about an hour about how I started Ewe Ewe Yarns, we we've come, and looking toward the future. I'll also tie in a project that uses the fun color palette of our yarns.

Membership is required for this guild but the yearly fee is only $25 and they get great speakers through the year!

See for more info about this event.

Hues You Can Use: Choose the Right Colors for Your Knitting Project

Time: Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 9 am to 12 pm.

Where: Yarning for You, 1001 W San Marcos Blvd. Ste 180, San Marcos, CA 92078

What we're up to: As knitters and creative people, we often find ourselves drawn to a specific set of colors, but why? We can use the principles of color theory to explain this and even help choose which color should be the main color of a project and which should play a supporting roll. We’ll apply this new knowledge to a picking the colors for a scarf and swatch our new technique! The pattern is included in the cost of the class and will be provided at the class.

Skill level: Any level welcome!

Fee: $45

Materials: 1-2 balls of 3 colors of Ewe Ewe Yarns Ewe So Sporty yarn. (Picking out your colors is part of the class and will be done during class).
US 8 (4.0 mm) knitting needles

Sign up: See class page for more details and call Yarning for You at 760-744-5648 to register.

I hope to see you!
