Free Pattern Friday: Night Surfer crochet hat

Night Surfer FREE crochet beanie pattern

Night Surfer FREE crochet beanie pattern

Inspired by a cool San Diego beach, Night Surfer is meant to keep you warm on your morning surf check. The colors fade from sand to sea and up into a starry night sky.

The beanie is worked from the bottom up and is mostly single crochet. The soft rolled brim adds a little extra length to cover your ears.

Sized for the whole family, Night Surfer can be made for the tiniest surf grommet to grandpa on his longboard.

The twinkling night sky is made using stranded crochet (often called tapestry crochet) and is explained in the pattern. Choose your favorite beachy colors to make the hat or just whip it up in one color.

In my original hat, I used Wheat for the sand, Sky Blue for the waves, Midnight Blue for the sky and Citrus Pop for the stars.

I also thought it would look pretty in a dreamy white sand beach color palette with Vanilla, Aquamarine, Teal and Lemon Chiffon. So tropical!

Harvest Cardigan by tincanknits

Harvest is the perfect example of a timeless cardigan. This sweater designed by tincanknits is a great way to learn how to knit your first cardigan and what better way to try it than on a small human?

Not only is Harvest a perfect next step for any knitter but it’s a free pattern that is accompanied with tutorials for every new adventure in the design. You can totally do this!

Harvest is knit using a worsted weight yarn and that means Wooly Worsted washable yarn from Ewe Ewe will be an excellent substitution choice. Wooly Worsted is a superwash merino yarn meaning it’s soft, washable and dryable making it just the right choice for a kid.

As you can see by these project names, knitters love to make the Harvest cardigan again and again. For children, the pattern is sized from 0-6 month though to 8-10 years and it seems really wearable at any age!

Knit it in Midnight Blue or any fun bold color of Wooly Worsted.

Or maybe you’d like to use a soft shade for a sweet newborn. Anything works!

Free Pattern Friday: Black Dipped Beanie in Baa Baa Bulky merino yarn

Black Dipped Beanie FREE knitting pattern

Black Dipped Beanie FREE knitting pattern

The Black Dipped Beanie came about when I asked a friend what color she liked. Her answer was, “black with darker shades of black.” Ha. Ok…

So I set about to make a black beanie but I just couldn’t do ALL black so she got a black beanie with a brighter pop of color! You know I love some pops of color.

I think it turned out pretty great and she really loved it so that was good, too.

All in all the Black Dipped Beanie is a quick knit, great for gift-giving and sized for the whole family! You could get 2 balls of Baa Baa Bulky and swap them around to make a couple of hats. I think this hat took me about three hours to knit at a leisurely pace.

Browse through our color selection of Baa Baa Bulky. You can use Black Licorice for the bottom portion of the hat and add your favorite shade (or your friend’s favorite shade) to the top. Or pick the two colors that you love most! You can’t really go wrong.

Christmas Eve Socks by Anna Lange

Let’s wrap up the festive December Socks on Saturday collection with these free Christmas Eve Socks! The pattern is simple stranded knitting with trees and other cute motifs. I like how the designer changed the background color from white to red and back again throughout the socks.

I put together some fun color combinations of Fluffy Fingering merino yarn below. You could do Forest Fern trees with a Wheat backdrop.

Red Velvet trees with a Vanilla backdrop would make a richer version of the original design.

And then I thought a Saffron tree could look excellent on a Brushed Silver backdrop. Take a look!

See all the yarn colors: Ewe Ewe Fluffy Fingering merino sock yarn and choose a combo that you love.

Each Socks on Saturday will highlight a sock pattern that you can use to knit yourself a pair of socks with Fluffy Fingering yarn. Today is the easiest plain socks with a pop of color: Extranilla

Simple and sweet, the Extranilla Socks by The Unapologetic Knitter are perfect for TV knitting! Extranilla are the type of socks you can keep in your bag and work on them when you just want to knit without having to worry about a pattern. They’re great for a beginner or a more experienced knitter!

Meaghan designed My Favorite Vanilla Socks that use one color of yarn but Extranilla adds that extra pop of color at the cuff, heel and toe to really bring them to life. My kinda socks! I love a good pop of color.

Socks on Saturday: YinYang Kitty Ankle Socks

Welcome to our new blog feature, Socks on Saturday! Since Ewe Ewe Yarns now has Fluffy Fingering in the merino yarn lineup we can make all the wonderful socks you can imagine. Yay!

Each Socks on Saturday will highlight a sock pattern that you can use to knit yourself fa pair of socks with Fluffy Fingering yarn. Today is a pair I’ve been wanting to make for a long time: YinYang Kitty!

The YinYang Kitty Ankle Socks were designer Geena Garcia’s first try at knitting pattern design and I think she nailed it! These crazy cute socks are two-toned kitties that can be made in a Yin and Yang style with contrasting colors. I love how they’re quick ankle socks, too.

I think we could knit these socks just as shown and they’d be perfect. Try Fluffy Fingering in Charcoal and Brushed Silver with a little pop of Red Velvet for the kitty’s nose.

I think the color possiblities are endless! You could do Vanilla and Charcoal for a more obvious YinYang effect. Or what if you start thinking of actual cat coat colors. A cute tabby cat came to my mind first!

Use Saffron and Wheat for the kitties and then add the cutest pink nose with Berry Fluffy Fingering. So fun!
